Item Details
Description
late 19th century, 288 x 111 cm, Central Caucasus
The knotting structure indicates that this carpet comes from the Genje region. The narrow blue field shows a repeat of angular botehs in rows of three with regular changes of direction. The wide white main border with rows of large star motifs and tiny diamonds is reminiscent of Talish carpets. Small eight-point stars adorn the blue outer border.
Several areas of moth damage, two large repiled sections at the lower and upper ends of the field, various minor repiled areas. The border finish is missing at the top and the lower finish is slightly reduced. The original selvedges survive but are partially restored.
