Item Details
Description
A long sleeve tie-dye long sleeve top, dyed and stage-worn by The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian.
The top features a pink, orange, and yellow horizontal striped pattern with touches of green, blue, and red, and a quarter button-down neckline. No size or label present.
The ensemble was dyed, c. late 1960s- early 1970s, at the 46-acre artistic community near Studio City called "The Farm." At The Farm, Sebastian was nicknamed "guitar fingers" due to his tight grip on his fabric (strength gained from playing the guitar) during the tie-dye process.
Sebastian often wore the top on stage under his tie-dyed Woodstock festival-worn Levi's jacket, and was photographed wearing the top in 1969 at "The Farm."
