Item Details
Description
Two tie-dye tops owned by The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian.
The first cotton thermal top features a green, yellow, and pink tie-dye pattern with embroidered neck trim and a bow detail, no label present, size large. The second sky blue cotton velour tunic top features blue and pink tie-dye details, with silver-tone hardware, a circle zipper, and a mock neck, labeled "Betty Lou of California," no size present.
The tops were dyed, c. late 1960s- early 1970s, at the 46-acre artistic community near Studio City called "The Farm." At The Farm, Sebastian was nicknamed "guitar fingers" due to his tight grip on his fabric (strength gained from playing the guitar) during the tie-dye process.
