Item Details
Description
A tie-dye ensemble, dyed by The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian.
The long-sleeved cotton velour top features a purple, orange, yellow, and magenta striped tie-dye pattern, as well as a three-button closure neckline, labeled "By Alfred of New York," no size present. The flare pants feature a purple, yellow, orange, and blue tie-dye pattern, with two front pockets, no size or label present.
The ensemble was dyed, c. late 1960s- early 1970s, at the 46-acre artistic community near Studio City called "The Farm." At The Farm, Sebastian was nicknamed "guitar fingers" due to his tight grip on his fabric (strength gained from playing the guitar) during the tie-dye process.
According to Sebastian, the top was likely stage-worn by him, c. early 1970s.
