Description
A 1950s Migma Meister flat top acoustic guitar built by Herbert Todt in natural finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.
A bit of an anomaly among Randy’s huge collection of German-made guitars from the ‘40s to the ‘60s, this impressive flat-top acoustic model comes from none other than Herbert Todt. Widely regarded as one of the most skilled luthiers operating out of East Germany at the time, Todt’s work is typically characterized by master craftsmanship, elaborate inlay work, and excellent tone. Though the guitar is branded “Migma” on the label (a brand representing a number of German luthiers) Todt’s name is scribbled in pen below.
A superb work of mesmerizing beauty, Randy refers to this acoustic as “A work of art you can play.” It’s easy to see why.
A laminate neck with a unique classical-style headstock, its face hand-inlaid with numerous pieces of mother of pearl and abalone, with a multi-ply black and white nut with zero fret. An 18-fret ebony fretboard, inlaid with mother of pearl bow ties, snowflakes, and other various shapes, replete with multi-ply white, black, and tortoise shell binding which continues onto the body. Spruce top with an incredibly complex rosette of shell and binding, an ebony bridge with mother of pearl inlays, rosewood back and sides.
The guitar is beautiful to be sure, but would be an excellent candidate for restoration work.
Includes hardshell case with grey and green interior.
