Description
This is a rare Cleveland Southwestern and Columbus Railway switchmans lantern. It is the only one we have evr seen! Patent dates of 1897, 1908, 1909, 1911, 1912, and 1913. Has a red etched globe with CSW&C Ry etched on the front. Replacement but correct burner and fount. The CSW&C had 227 miles of track at its peak in 1908. It was one of the largest interurbans in Northeast Ohio. Included with this lantern is a booklet with excerpts about the railroad from The Vanguard of a Regional Infrastructure: Electric Railways of Northeast Ohio 1884-1932, from a Dissertation to the Graduate Faculty of the Univesity of Akron by Stephen D. Hambley in 1993. Little can be found online about the railroad, but this booklet gives an excellent history of the CSW&C. Lantern is in fine used condition!
