Description
Flowering plants in different shapes and colours fill the compartments of a diamond lattice composed of serrated leaves without touching the inner sides of this white-ground prayer rug. A tower-shaped ornament, with two facing birds perched on its tip, stands within the tall apex of the arch. Two diamonds with four vertical leaves are depicted at the sides. The red main border with the abstract birds typical of the area is unusually narrow, and is flanked by two blue secondary borders in which a vine links small blossoms.
One major repiled area in the field, the kilim finish has been restored in the two upper corners. Good overall condition, original selvedges and flatwoven ends. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
