Description
mid 19th century, 308 x 136 cm, South Anatolia, Taurus
BANDSMA, AREND / BRANDT, ROBIN, Flatweaves of Turkey. London 2003, pl. 57
This red-ground kilim woven in a single panel is a Yoruk piece from the Taurus region. The sharply serrated comb-like motifs are the most striking feature, either positioned as white vertical panels between the hexagons in the field that is divided into three sections, or filling the hexagons as brown and red motifs. They also separate the field from the white border as a long white stripe at the side. The devices with six wing-shaped arms in the border are also outlined with comb-like serrations. A very similar kilim was published by Bandsma / Brandt.
Very good condition.
