A rare French silver cased double singing bird musical box, boar's head poincons, attributed to Blaise Bontems, circa 1880, brass framed movement with double bellows and paddlewheel governor, movement no. 705, operated by a plain lever to the front releasing an oval cover engraved with foliage and flowers, revealing a pierced interior with two blue and black feathered birds, the sides with complimentary foliage and flowers, a hinged key compartment to the back, 9.5cm (3 3/4in) wide, with a stylised bird profile key, in a leather covered case with a retailer's label of Au Nain Bleu, Paris, 27 Bd. des Capucines See Bailly (Sharon & Christian) Flights of Fancy: Mechanical Singing Birds / Les Oiseaux du bonheur: Tabatieres et Automates , Geneve, 2001, p. 314/5 for boxes with two singing birds, created by the Bontems company between 1880 and 1900.
