Description
This is a New York State Railways Adams and Westlake tail lamp. Has one red lens in like new condition. Cast with N.Y.S. R-Ys on the top of the lamp. Intact peephole and glass. Needs fount and burner. Brass patent tag on the inside shows patent dates from 1899 through 1913. Bell bottom, with mounting arm bracket. Used on the rear of interurban cars in places like Rochester and Utica NY, to name just a few examples. Nice paintwork. Rare, hard-to-find piece! It is one of several lanterns from the estate of Ray Canole, a well-known collector and restorer of railroad lanterns from Michigan. He has done exquisite restorations for many years.
