Item Details
Description
second half 19th century, 173 x 82 cm, West China

Two sections, still joined, of one of the long bench runners woven in Ningxia as commissions for Tibetan monasteries. Identical in design, the fields show a large disc medallion and two fo dogs on a red-brown ground, surrounded by a meandering vine. In the golden yellow border, blossoms and Buddhist emblems are linked by a serpentine vine.

Restored upper finish, very good overall condition.
