Item Details
Description
second half 19th century, 423 x 147 cm, Central Anatolia
A long two-panel Sivas kilim woven in a design of wide horizontal stripes in dark colours. Each horizontal stripe contains three large diamonds with vertical pendants as well as small halved diamonds and hooked diamonds. Elongated diamonds with parmakli outlines are lined up in rows in the narrow orange-ground border.
Very finely and precisely woven on brown goat hair warps, with white cotton highlights and details brocaded in gold thread. The fact that the diamonds fit together in the field centre without any misalignment proves the weaver’s great skill.
Very well preserved, except for minimal signs of wear, small holes and repairs. Provenance: Siedek Collection, Dusseldorf
