KREISSL, RAINER, Infinite Variety. Unendliche Vielfalt. Anatolia. Munich 2000, no. 64 *** TURKISH REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (publ.), Turkish Handwoven Carpets. Catalog No: 2. Ankara 1988, 0145
RIPPON BOSWELL, A 53, 20 November 1999, lot 117
More finely woven than most Obruk village rugs and with a deep aubergine field, this very well-drawn example is a masterpiece of its group. Three huge octagons with a cross at their centres are flanked by pairs of triangles at the sides. Only a section of a fourth primary motif appears at the upper end of the field.
Signs of age and wear, major repiled areas in the field ground. Both sides restored, the end finishes including the red kilims have been replaced.
