Description
first half 19th century, 39 x 99 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan

Very fine in weave, this Yomut torba features a very rare lattice design of red and petrol angular lines whose ends are curled like hooks. The lattice surrounds small rosettes and eight-pointed stars. Flanked by reciprocal waves on both sides, the narrow white border contains a design of small cruciform motifs and diamonds. Velvety and lustrous pile wool.

Signs of age and wear, low pile, one repiled area at the bottom right, the corners and sides show old repairs.
