HOFFMEISTER, PETER, Turkoman Carpets in Franconia. Edinburgh 1980, no. 1
This impressive main carpet was published by Hoffmeister in 1980. A repeat of large kepse guls decorated respectively with red and green or steel blue and white serrated devices adorns the aubergine-ground field. The guls combine into flat colour diagonals. Their octagonal centres are embellished with C-motifs. The vertical bands of the main border contain a Turkmen wavy vine with curled leaves, while the horizontal bands show ashik guls separated by pairs of small facing triangles. The knotted elems differ in design, with delicately drawn trees at the bottom and Yomut pines above them.
Signs of age and wear, a number of repiled areas, new overcasting along the sides, both ends slightly reduced.
