Borjalou Kazak
Borjalou Kazak
Item Details
Description
third quarter 19th century, 221 x 139 cm, South West Caucasus

The field of this Borjalou Kazak contains a dense repeat of interlocking complete, halved and quartered hooked diamonds. A row of four complete motifs accentuates the central axis. Characteristically seen in the main borders of Borjalous, this design is rarely encountered as a repeat in their fields. The main border of this item is decorated with small hooked diamonds on a white ground.

The corroded brown sections are partially repiled, the upper kilim finish has been restored in places, one stitched crease, minimally reduced lower finish. Good overall condition, with a high pile and original selvedges. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
