Description
late 19th century, 96 x 58 cm, North West Persia, Kurdistan
PLÖTZE, KARL-MICHAEL, Welt der Kelims. Barsinghausen 2001, no. 100
An unusually small Bijar kilim, finely woven on a purple silk warp. The dark blue field is taken up by a large central medallion with long pendants. Eight rectilinear yellow stems with a calyx-shaped flower at their ends are arranged around them. Drawn in a baroque style, the design of this special group of Bijar kilims deviates from the Persian tradition and probably derives from French fabrics.
Good condition.
